Guide to City Government

Welcome sign at Langley City Limits The City of Langley operates under a Mayor-Council form of government. Five members of City Council are elected at-large for 4-year terms. The Mayor also is elected for a 4-year term. The Mayor presides over Council meetings and votes only in the event of a tie. City Council meets on the first and third Monday of each month in City Hall at 6:30pm. The Council holds an informal workshop at 4:00 pm on the day of council meetings. City Council meetings are open to the public.

City Hall in Langley, WA In 1992 the City purchased the Masonic Hall at 112 2nd Street for use as City Hall. The building is located next to the Langley Library and across the street from the US Post Office.

A Taste of Langley History

Jacob Anthes left his home town of Gros Gerau, Germany at the age of 14 and crossed the Atlantic Ocean in hopes of finding adventure and to avoid registering for compulsory military service. Anthes found his way to Seattle where a businessman hired the young man to be in residence on a wild tract of homestead land on Whidbey Island so that the businessman could ratify the homestead rights to the land. While living there Jacob Anthes explored all of South Whidbey on foot and decided on the Langley area for his home. . .
