Langley needs volunteers for emergency operations center
Langley is taking a somewhat unique approach in its Emergency Operations
plan. We are relying on volunteers! We are looking for a few dedicated
and talented people who will be trained to run an Emergency Operations
Center.
In the event of a major emergency, the City's personnel and resources
will be stretched quickly. If necessary, the City will open and operate
Langley's Emergency Operations Center (EOC), a communications center
activated in the event of a disaster. Here the City's volunteer staff
will help to organize post-disaster response and recovery efforts with
numerous groups within the county, region, and state in a coordinated
approach. The contribution of volunteers will be critical to the
success of an emergency response here in our small town.
Few people outside the ranks of professional emergency managers and
first responders get to be in the thick of things when an emergency
occurs. If a unique volunteer opportunity appeals to you, we'd like to
talk. Our EOC Volunteer Training Program begins on November 17. To get
more information about this program come to the public forum hosted by
Langley's emergency planning consultants on Saturday, October 27th, at
10:00 a.m. in City Hall Council Chambers. Please contact Lynn Sterbenz
at (360) 929-6132 or sterbenz@whidbey.com for more information.
